Retail market in Russia shows impressive growth SHOP DESIGN RUSSIA cements its position as the retail industry’s leading event for shopfitting and marketing

It was a sea of smiling faces at Russia’s most cutting-edge fairgrounds, ZAO Expocentre in Krasnaya Presnya, Moscow. After its successful four-day run, the sixth edition of SHOP DESIGN RUSSIA drew to a close on 13 September 2008.

A total of 8,800 visitors took in innovative offerings in the lines of shopfitting, lighting technology, IT systems and retail marketing spread across some 6,000 square metres of gross exhibition space. Hailing from Russia, Germany, Ukraine, Italy, Spain and Turkey, 103 exhibitors showcased their products and services and were once again extremely satisfied with the number of experts from all sectors of the retail industry and the level of interest shown. Shopfitting and store equipment, building and lighting technology, refrigeration units and technology, visual merchandising and sales promotions plus communications, information and security technology as well as exhibition stand construction shared the spotlight.

Following its first ever participation in SHOP DESIGN RUSSIA, Bavarian supplier of LED technology and video communications, OCURIS, expressed delight at the “high-calibre of the visitors and their professional feedback” received regarding the company’s products. Overall, the German business was “extremely satisfied with its presentation on the Russian market.”

The top event for Russia and the surrounding regions was once again organised by Messe Düsseldorf GmbH and its subsidiary Messe Düsseldorf Moscow OOO in cooperation with their partners Expopark Exhibition Projects. Once again an official joint German stand backed by the Deutscher Ladenbauverband (German shopfitting association – DLV) took the floor, this time with eleven participating companies.

After four days, the exhibitors, visitors and organisers agreed – the Russian Federation continues to offer tremendous potential. Thanks to the constant expansion in retail space – not only in the numerous major cities – and the rise of a customer base with increasing purchasing power and an appreciation for innovative design concepts, the region’s growing importance for all those providing services to the retail industry remains undimmed.

According to URALSIB Financial Corporation, growth in the retail market is forecast to climb annually by eleven percent until 2010. Rounding off the variety of attractive offerings for the sales trends of the future was once again a stimulating ancillary programme. Staged for the fourth time, “Best Points!”, the festival of POP/POS advertising, included, among other things, the national competition for the best display system, culminating in the handing over of the “OMA Russia Awards”. Plus, the “EURASIA – P.O.S. TODAY” international conference bannered “Update on Marketing Communications in Retail” was also held. POPAI (Point of Purchase Advertising International) Russia, the Global Association for Marketing at-Retail, in cooperation with Messe Düsseldorf Moscow and Expopark Exhibition Projects were responsible for organising the festival.

It was particularly gratifying to note the synergies that developed as a result of the first ever simultaneous staging of SHOP DESIGN RUSSIA and CPM – Collection Première Moscow. Consequently, international visitors – primarily from the fields of wholesale, retail, shopfitting, sales, design, advertising and marketing, all-in furnishing and architecture – benefited from exciting impulses and brushed up on the latest trends in fashion retailing.
